Jordie Benn to Montreal

Jordie Benn has been acquired by the Habs for a 2017 4th round pick and defenseman Greg Pateryn

The trades continue to fall for the NHL trade deadline with Montreal now answering Toronto and Ottawa.

Here are his stats which for this year aren’t great. He has also only been playing under 19 minutes a night, so he isn’t a work-horse. I see the Habs adding some depth with this move that isn’t overly expensive. Benn does have two years left on his deal after this one but only at 1.1MM so it doesn’t break the bank. He probably plays on the 3rd pairing for Montreal, but I am not sure who he would get paired with. Habs fans chime in.

Clearly the sell of is on for the Stars. First the Eaves trade to ANA and now this trade with Ottawa. Who is next to go? I think Sharp is too expensive to get a quick deal done, esp with Dallas possbily retaining salary, so I’m going to guess Jiri Hudler. Hudler is a UFA as well and can provide some depth scoring on the 4th line for some contenders.

The fire sale is on in Dallas

Updated on Pateryn, a big defenseman who isn’t that quick but can handle the puck decently and has a big shot from the point.
